COLUMBUS, Ind. – It is the biggest week of the year for football in Columbus, as the Bulldogs of North host the East Olympians in the 54th meeting of the two schools.
Most of the games have been during the regular season, but they have met a couple of times in sectional play. North leads the series 28-25, and they have won decisively the last three years. The last East win in the series was in 2020 in Bob Gaddis’ final year as the Olympian coach.
It could be quite a challenge once again for East on Friday night. North won big on the road last week, knocking off Decatur Central, the #1 team in Class 5A. Despite the win, the Bulldogs did not receive votes in the recent IHSAA coaches poll. East lost to Bloomington South in week #1, 27-6.
The crosstown rivalry game will be played at North’s Max Andress Field and broadcast on MOJO 102.9 by Tom Rust and Jim St. John. Pre-game coverage starts at 6:35 p.m., kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
The Johnson County Game of the Week on KORN Country 100.3 will see the Woodsmen of Greenwood host the Indian Creek Braves. Both teams lost their opener last week. Greenwood dropped a three-point decision to Seymour, and Indian Creek lost 21-18 to Cascade. Jason Newhouse and Steve Stuart will be on the call at 6:45 p.m.
In Jennings County, the Panthers host Beech Grove in their home opener. Both teams will be searching for their first win, with Jennings County losing to South Dearborn 42-14 and the Hornets losing to Greenfield Central 50-8 in week one. Joe Ammerman will have the game for listeners starting at 6:45 on Jennings County KORN 1460 AM or 97.7 FM.
