GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Greenwood Fire Department (GFD) was dispatched to 417 Clearview Way at the Clearview Apartments complex after the report of an explosion on Sunday morning. One person died in the event.
The first arriving units found a single-story, multi-family structure that was ablaze.
Evacuation was in progress. Except in the apartment where the fire started, the initial search was completed and cleared of any occupants. The primary apartment could not be searched because of the large fire and structural hazards.
There are eight units in the building: Six were evacuated, one was unoccupied, and the final apartment where a body was found. None of the evacuated occupants sustained injuries.
The investigation is underway but at this time, it is not known how the fire started or any of the extenuating circumstances that went into the cause of the fire.
The GFD investigation is being conducted with the Greenwood Police Department, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Greenwood Police Department, and Johnson County Coroner’s Office.
The American Red Cross and Fire Angels Inc. are helping those affected by the blaze.
The White River Township and Bargersville Community Fire Departments assisted in the firefighting efforts.
