COLUMBUS, Ind. – Mental Health Matters (MHM) and the Alliance for Substance Abuse Progress are launching Mental Health Awareness Month Community Celebration in May, a 31-day, county-wide initiative inviting residents to explore what it truly means to live well.
The month-long celebration, part of national Mental Health Awareness Month, brings together over a dozen local organizations to host free and low-cost events—from support groups and wellness workshops to art exhibits, yoga, youth programs, and block parties. These gatherings offer entry points for people of all ages and backgrounds to connect, reflect, and build mental resilience.
In addition to in-person events, residents can participate in a 31-day wellness challenge by following @mhmbartholomew on Facebook and Instagram. Each day features a simple, research-backed action rooted in four key areas of wellness: psychological, emotional, social, and contemplative. Daily prompts like Reconnect with your culture, Practice joy with self-awareness, or Break codependent patterns, encourage small but meaningful steps toward holistic well-being.
Throughout May, three iconic Columbus landmarks will shine green in solidarity with Mental Health Awareness Month: the CRH Tower, InterOculus, and the Stewart Bridge. Each glowing landmark is a reminder that no one is alone—and that it’s okay to talk about mental health.
