GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Greenwood Fire Department (GFD) responded to a reported aircraft accident at the Indy South Greenwood Airport, at 897 Airport Parkway, just after noon on Sunday.
Initial reports indicated that a single-propeller aircraft was taking off to the north from runway 01 when it made an emergency landing just inside the airport property. The crash landing occurred just south of the Indiana State Police (ISP) hangar.
Two occupants, a male and a female, exited the plane with minor injuries. Greenwood Fire personnel assessed both individuals at the scene, and then they were transported to a local trauma center for further evaluation.
GFD was assisted by the White River Township Fire Department. The Greenwood Police Department secured the scene until the arrival of investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), who will lead the investigation.
The airport office remains open, however, inbound and outbound air traffic was temporarily suspended as a safety precaution.
