COLUMBUS, Ind. – As thunderstorms battered south-central Indiana Friday evening, a suspected tornado might have touched down in the Grandview Lake area of Columbus.
Although not confirmed as a tornado yet by the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, high winds and hail caused substantial damage to homes, boats, cars, and property. Trees were downed, and debris was everywhere.
Storm-chasers took pictures of funnel clouds in the southwestern portion of Bartholomew County.
A Grandview Lake resident spoke with a Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office deputy early Saturday morning, who said the county was hit hard but he had gotten word that Brown County “got it worse than we did, and they had casualties.” This is unconfirmed at this point.
