COLUMBUS, Ind. – Members of the Columbus and Bartholomew County School Resource Officer (SRO) team recently received the Model Agency Award at this year’s National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) Conference.
The team is an independent collaboration of officers from the Columbus Police Department and deputies from the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office and serves the students in the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation and the Flat Rock-Hawcreek School Corporation.
SROs are carefully selected, specifically trained, and properly equipped as they work alongside staff and students daily. They engage with our students to build positive relationships, mentor, educate, and contribute to a safer school community.
Pictured are four of the Bartholomew County SROs: Officer Eric Kapczynski, Officer Eric Stevens, Deputy Teancum Clark, and Sgt. Julie Q. Smith. Officer Bernard Sims and Deputy Jessica Pendleton (not pictured) are also members of the team.
