COLUMBUS, Ind. – Bartholomew County Superior Court 1 convicted a Columbus man for firearm related charges on Tuesday, July 29.
Following an investigation by the Columbus Police Department (CPD), Michael A. Powers was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon, a Level 4 felony and Criminal Recklessness, a Level 5 felony. Powers was convicted of both charges and entered admissions to violating his probation in a separate case.
Bartholomew County Judge James Worton sentenced Powers to an aggregate sentence of 16.75 years to be served in the Indiana Department of Corrections. The sentencing range for a Level 4 felony is two years to twelve years, with an advisory sentence of six years. The sentencing range for a Level 5 felony is one year to six years, with an advisory sentence of three years.
The Indiana Department of Correction fully revoked the 8.75 years remaining on Powers’ probation.
