COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) said they were “saddened to learn of the passing of retired Columbus Fire Department Fire Chief, Chief Gary Burriss.” He passed away on Sunday, August 3.
Burriss, Badge #135, joined CFD on February 15, 1976, and dedicated 30 years of service to the City of Columbus before retiring February 22, 2006.
As Department Chief from 1996-2000, Chief Burriss and the City of Columbus collaborated to establish Fire Station 6, improving service delivery to the southwest portion of our community.
Gary also served as the president of the Columbus Professional Firefighters Union and was an officer with the Professional Firefighters Union of Indiana.
