COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Indiana State Police-Versailles Post and Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office worked the scene of an accident with serious injuries on southbound I-65, near the 71-mile marker, just north of Columbus, on Monday morning.
The crash occurred at 8:30 a.m. on Labor Day and eventually backed up traffic and caused both the north and south lanes of the interstate to be closed so that lifeline helicopters could land and transport victims to hospitals.
At around 9:05 a.m., there was a secondary collision involving a motorcycle at the 73-mile marker due to the stalled traffic from the first crash.
By 9:45 a.m., both accidents had been cleared and the interstate was opened again.
Authorities did not report the number of people hurt and the extent of their injuries.
