INDIANAPOLIS – This Monday, July 8, marks the start of the 23rd annual “Cops Cycling for Survivors” bicycle ride around Indiana. The ride observes Indiana’s fallen law enforcement heroes and lets their survivors know they and their loved ones are not forgotten.
A departure ceremony is planned for 8 a.m. at the Police and Fire Fighters Memorial in downtown Indianapolis. The ride concludes on Saturday, July 20, at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indy.
The motto of Cops Cycling for Survivors is “Riding to Remember” as the group honors officers killed in the line of duty throughout Indiana’s history. While Cops Cycling for Survivors commemorates all Indiana line-of-duty death officers, this year’s ride pays special tribute to the seven officers who died in 2023.
The bike ride consists of active and retired police officers, law enforcement survivors, law enforcement family members, and friends riding their bicycles around the perimeter of Indiana to raise funds and awareness of the sacrifices made by Hoosier law enforcement families.
Money raised from this event is used to perpetuate the memories of officers killed in the line of duty and to aid their surviving family members.
Bartholomew and Johnson Counties will be a part of the last leg of the ride as cyclists arrive in Columbus on the afternoon of July 19 to spend the night. They leave the next morning from Columbus for the last 40 miles of the trip, cycling through Johnson County to Indianapolis for the closing ceremonies.
