NORTH VERNON,Ind.— The groundbreaking ceremony for the new North Vernon Police Station commenced on Wednesday, May 21.
The North Vernon Police Department(NVPD) stated that the current station standing was not originally constructed to be a police station, and is extremely outdated. As the police department develops and laws regulating evidence storage change, there is a need for a larger, more advanced building.
Mayor Shawn Gerkin stated “This police station will be a source of pride for both our officers and the community, designed with a forward-thinking approach to serve the department’s needs for the next 50 years.”
According to Mayor Gerkin, the construction of the new police station will not result in a tax increase for residents.
