COLUMBUS, Ind. – A criminal record is a big barrier to better housing, employment, and education. River Valley Legal Aid, Pro Bono Indiana, and Ivy Tech Community College-Columbus are together hosting the first-ever free expungement event in Columbus on Thursday, June 12, at Bartholomew County Public Library, 536 Fifth St.
Indiana law allows a one-time opportunity for some low-level convictions, misdemeanors, and arrest records to be sealed from criminal records. This event offers information about the qualification requirements for expunging records.
You will have the opportunity to meet with legal and other community resource providers. The Alliance for Substance Abuse Progress in Bartholomew County will provide pizza and refreshments.
Bartholomew County Public Library has limited capacity, so you are urged to come early.
If you can’t attend this event, visit legalaidpbi.org/services to find additional clinics and other ways to get free legal help.
Here is the schedule for the free criminal record expungement meeting:
- 3:30 to 4 p.m. – Registration
- 4 to 6 p.m. – “Protecting Your Online Record” with Attorney Timothy Peterson, Pro Bono Indiana; “Back on the Road” with Michael G. Moore, Indiana Public Defender Council
